I'm About To Lose It Logo

An obese 50 year old guy takes the plunge into RNY gastric bypass surgery.

I probably wont be posting about every single day of my pre-op diet, but I will say that while this is still total suckage, day two was about 20% easier than day one was. Probably largely attributed to getting more sleep.

The hunger pangs weren’t as pronounced and I was able to stay the course on the diet all day.

As little as I’m eating, I’m going to be disappointed if I don’t lose at least 10-15 additional pounds during this two week stretch.

I’ve already started looking forward to my one evening meal of the day, even though it’s very little food. I am definitely not looking forward to next week when I get no actual food! Still, I’m trying to lean into the whole process. The first day I did break a couple of rules, but not by much (I had a Mountain Dew Zero to combat my extreme fatigue from very little sleep the night before, and I did have about six potato chips.) But yesterday I stuck it out all day, totally on plan, and ate under 800 calories the entire day.

I was dog tired though and was asleep by 10pm. Today (day 3) I’m still tired and sluggish…I suspect it’s going to be this way for a while both before and after surgery until my stomach adjusts and I can add a few more calories and carbs.

Right now I’m breaking one of the suggestions (not a hard rule, yet). I am chewing a piece of sugar free gum. It is recommended not to because it is off limits for a long time after surgery and because it promotes hunger…but I was tired of perpetually having the protein shake aftertaste in my mouth. I will use this one piece to gauge if I can have an occasional piece before surgery or not.
