I picked up the Legendary Foods Protein Pastry in Chocolate Cake flavor. These have 20g of protein, 23g of carbs (5 net carbs, if you do it that way…I just do total carbs.)
These were $25.64 for 8 single pack pastries, which is a bit over $3 per single pastry. Not terrible for protein food….not cheap either though. About average, I guess. I got them from Amazon but my daughter thinks they have them at Walmart too.
On to the product. You get one per pack. It says for best results to heat for 10-15 seconds. It kind of weirds me out how hot the inside of this thing gets for only 15 seconds. But I digress…
The taste? Okay. Not as good as a typical Atkins bar, in my opinion, but not nearly as bad as some of the other products I’ve had. This thing is Pop Tart shaped and marketed but I wouldn’t exactly compare it, other than the basic concept. The pastry part is much more doughy, and not that great. The inside gets hot and melty after 15 seconds in the microwave. It’s a pretty good fix if you are just having a Pop Tart jonesing, I think, but you can definately taste the low/fake sugar, high protein taste…and the trademark weird aftertaste in almost every protein-forward product I’ve tried.
It’s not terrible. It’s not even what I’d say as “bad.” It’s just “meh.” It’s okay. I’m really trying to focus on protein forward things and even with all the protein it has, it has more carbs than protein…so it’s not something I could eat on a regular basis. But as an occasional treat I think I will try them. There are several flavors and this is the only one I’ve tried. Maybe others are better? I’m not sure.
