I'm About To Lose It Logo

An obese 50 year old guy takes the plunge into RNY gastric bypass surgery.

Back with another review on a limited edition Premier Protein flavor. Cutting right to the chase, this one isn’t bad. Chocolate still reins supreme, and I like mixing it up with the indulgence flavors, especially caramel, but I wouldn’t be mad at adding this to the mix every 3 or 4 days.

The taste is root beer float “ish”. Sort of?

I get more root beer than float, and even that is like a loose approximation of root beer. It still has the classic “protein flavor” that pretty much every protein drink has…but as I’m used to that, it doesn’t bother me a whole lot. Does it taste like a real root beer float? No. Not really at all. But none of the flavors from any brand really taste like what they say they do. That is just something you have to accept with protein shakes. If it was going to taste like a real root beer float, it’d have all the carbs, calories and other stuff a root beer float has. But for a protein drink, it’s an okay approximation.

Out of all the flavors and brands I’ve tried I’d put this is in the top 50%. Not at the top, but maybe 4th or 5th down the list. As I said, chocolate is still my #1. I’m over a year and a half in and drinking a protein shake every morning I thankfully haven’t grown to despise the chocolate, yet. But I always enjoy mixing it up with another flavor.

There have been some flavors I bought a 4 pack of and wish I hadn’t…all of the protein shakes are so darned expensive, so I was hesitant to buy a whole 12 pack of these, not having tried them. I bought a 12 pack of these from Amazon, and I am okay with that. It was risk but I’m okay with it. These will go in the mix with the rest of mostly chocolate shakes.

3.5 out of 5 stars on the protein shake scale.
