It’s been a minute since I’ve done a Food Review and most (not all) of them have had some level of disappointment…but not this time! Early on, I tried about half a dozen different ready-made protein shakes with very mixed results. In the end the only ones I ever found I really liked were the Core Power (the one with 26 grams of protein) and Premier Protein Chocolate (30g Protein) flavors.
Now, a new contender has entered the ring! I saw these in a Men’s Bariatric group I am a part of on Facebook, and they were getting good reviews. I was skeptical, but wanted to give it a shot. Unfortunately it looks like the only place they are available, at least in my area, is at Sam’s Club, which I don’t have a membership for. Thankfully a family member does and gifted me some of these after I asked about them on FB.
Long story short, these are really good! When you crack it open it smells just like a bowl of Fruit Loops. The taste is really close to the milk left over in your bowl after a bowl of said cereal. It is obviously less sugary than the bowl of cereal, and just like with all things protein, it does have a bit of the protein taste/feel in there…but not nearly like a lot of other protein drinks I’ve had. It’s really good!
All in all, I’d rank this right in my top 3 somewhere with the Premier and Core Power. Of the 3 I think Core Power has the best taste, but I also think it has more calories and carbs and has 4 fewer grams of protein than this or the Premier. None of them are overloaded with carbs or calories though. Premier has been my go to because you get 30g of Protein in a smaller bottle with a good taste, but this SixStar is a totally viable player when I can get them!
Happy to have found another option I like. If I understand they have a Frosted Flakes flavor (and maybe others.) If so I will try to get my hands on some of the others.
