I'm About To Lose It Logo

An obese 50 year old guy takes the plunge into RNY gastric bypass surgery.

I must confess that lately I’ve “cheated” a few times. I’ve had a few instances lately where there were some regular chips around and I partook. I didn’t eat a whole lot. Just 3 or 4, or in one case maybe 8 chips, where in the past that would have been half (or more) of a family size bag. G

But still…it’s part of the slippery slope I don’t need to be on.

After a few people in one of my bariatric groups were raving about these Wilde Protein chips made from chicken, I decided to give them a try. I ordered a variety 3 pack from Amazon: Sea Salt and Vinegar, Regular Sea Salt, Chicken and Waffles. I’ve only tried the Salt and Vinegar shown here.

The verdict? Pretty decent. These aren’t Lay’s chips. These aren’t Doritos. I’ve begrudgingly made my peace with the fact that no protein/keto chips will ever be. But in the grand scope they aren’t too bad.

The crunch is there. The salt and vinegar is there, although not as much as with Lay’s or similar. They are a bit of a thicker chip, like Lay’s Baked chips.

The areas I will ding them is even though they are made from chicken, I was hoping the chicken taste wouldn’t come through as much (except for the chicken and waffles flavor), but you can almost immediately taste it. And it tastes slightly burnt. The burnt taste seems a bit more prominent at the end. They also have a bit of grit to them but not nearly as bad as the Quest chips. It also had a bit of an unpleasing aftertaste and I quickly reached for some water, then some gum.

Despite those things, it is a decent protein chip. It’s better than the Quest chips IMHO. I just need God to send down some protein Doritos that taste exactly like the real thing, but without any carbs and 30g of protein per chip. 🙂

I will give them a 6.7/10.
