I'm About To Lose It Logo

An obese 50 year old guy takes the plunge into RNY gastric bypass surgery.

While it’s obvious math, it just dawned on me yesterday where I am weight wise, in relation to my goals.

I started at 508. I’ve never set a hard and fast goal weight. If you go by BMI charts it’s probably around 190 but I don’t think that number is at all realistic for me. Weight aside, I’m a BIG guy. I’m tall, and barrel chested, and broad shouldered. I will probably always have to wear tall shirts.

I figured, and still figure, that my “goal weight” is somewhere in the 220 range, give or take. It seems like a good number I guess. Honestly even now that I’m in the 200’s (287 as of this morning) I can’t wrap my mind being at that weight.

But I always told myself, and still believe, if I am anywhere under 250 I will consider all of this a total victory. Truth is I pretty much feel like it’s a total victory now…but I want to keep going and try to hit that 220 range.

Yesterday it hit me though, how close I am, relatively speaking, to that 250 number! I posted recently that if I hit 254 I will have lost literally 1/2 of my starting weight. What I didn’t think about until yesterday is as of this morning I am at 287.0…if I lose 37 more pounds I will be at 250! 34 to be at that 1/2 loss.

I honestly can’t wrap my mind around that. I don’t know if it’ll happen or not, but by the end of the year (or sooner) I could theoretically be below 250.

I don’t know…it just all kind of blows my mind to be the weight I am…I couldn’t imagine it when this all started and even actually being there I still have a hard time realizing it!

Although I can’t find a definitive answer on this, I also think I’ve moved from “morbidly obese” to just “obese”, which probably doesn’t sound great but in my mind it is!

Anyway, I just can’t believe how far I’ve come and I’m proud of myself.
