Today I’m starting to make strides toward better health. I set 3 goals I’m trying to work on:
- Getting 64oz of water a day.
- Tracking my eating.
- Getting 60+ grams of protein in a day.
Water is water. It shouldn’t be a problem at this stage. It’s going to becoming much more of a challenge post surgery, when I can no longer chug it. I can easily get 64oz of liquid in a day…the challenge is going to be making that water and not Mountain Dew or sweet tea. 🙂
I’m getting started with the free Baritastic app to track my food. It seems to be pretty easy to use and many WLS (weight loss surgery) patients recommend it and MyFitnessPal. I’ve used MFP in the past and it works fine, just thought I’d try something different. I’m a completely new user to the app but so far it seems uncluttered so I can get the info on and move on.
In an effort to start prepping for the future I’m going to start sampling different protein based drinks. It looks like protein shakes are going to become a staple of the foreseeable future. I’ve never had a protein shake. I hope in the next few days to get few to try.
Today though I tried a protein infused fruit water called Protein2O, Wild Cherry flavor. It was….a drink. It kind of reminds me of a diet Vitamin Water or a watered down diet Gatorade. The first sip or two was a little odd and it left a bit of an aftertaste…but it was easily doable. My only worry is that out of the 3 flavors I bought in a multi-pack, this one was the one I was most likely to buy. The others are a dragon fruit and blackberry mix, and a mango and…something (I forget) mix. Why do companies have to mix weird flavors? What happened to just “cherry” or “grape”? Ah well, that’s another battle for another day. 🙂
Ah well, I spent my life drinking those Mountain Dew’s, Cokes, and sweet teas. They may taste great but they sure don’t do anything good for me. Here’s to a healthier future.
