I'm About To Lose It Logo

An obese 50 year old guy takes the plunge into RNY gastric bypass surgery.

It’s been about 12 days since my surgery. One thing my mind is still blown about is how little food I need to not only survive but to feel okay. I’ve only cracked 500 calories once in the last week! I am keeping a good balance of protein and carbs, and weight is still coming off.

Next week I go into the puree stage and I suspect that will mean more calories in the day…but that is fine. I’m trusting the process.

Recovery from the surgery itself has been a breeze. I’ve just taken it slow and easy and had no direct problems.

I am starting to experience one of the known, ongoing “side-effects” of the surgery: constipation. Not to the point of being concerned yet, but I am taking Mirilax so hopefully things will start moving there.

One big surprise was that my surgery was just days before Halloween, and this may be the first year of my life that I didn’t eat any candy. Not only that, it just wasn’t really too tempting. We had a huge pile to give out and I looked at it a few times and thought “I’d like to have some of that,” but I quickly realized that was my head and not my body. My body didn’t want it…it was just old habits and comforts talking. I dismissed them and pushed through.

Unfortunately I somehow threw my back out 2 nights ago and it’s the worst I’ve ever had in that respect. I can barely walk. So it’s off to another day on the heating pad.
