I'm About To Lose It Logo

An obese 50 year old guy takes the plunge into RNY gastric bypass surgery.

I made my first batch of overnight oats last night and they came out pretty good. Definitely want to experiment with other flavors but this was a good start. I’ve always liked the instant flavored oats but I’m obviously going for something healthier now and with more protein.

These are not the most protein packed oats and the carbs are high but they are “good” carbs and I honestly haven’t been getting as many carbs per day as my nutritionist would like.

Anyway here was my mix:

  • 1/2 cup of regular Quaker oats
  • 1/2 cup of low fat milk
  • 1 heaping spoonful of PB2 powder
  • 1/2 scoop of Ghost Chips Ahoy protein mix
  • A generous amount of cinnamon

Honestly I couldn’t taste the ghost too much nor the cinnamon, but the peanut butter flavor came through well! I’m fine with my oatmeal being a bit more solid OR a little bit runny (not too much) and I was worried that adding both the Ghost and PB2 would make it too dry, but it didn’t.

After I got everything put in it was coming out at about 7 ounces and I’m only eating 4 max at a time, so I ate half of it. For half of that the stats were approximately 20g protein, 22g carbs, 206 calories. Like I said, kind of high in carbs but I haven’t been getting them. I’d like to figure out how to get it to 30g protein so it can fully replace a protein shake in the morning (which I’m pretty tired of) but I think the oats and carbs will stick with me for several hours….so overall I think it’s a win!
