I'm About To Lose It Logo

An obese 50 year old guy takes the plunge into RNY gastric bypass surgery.

Week one of the pre-op diet is down and I lost a crazy 16 pounds in one week.

I have to say, it was pretty rough. Especially the first couple of days. In the beginning I was so tired, sluggish, and felt like I had a cold…and felt like I was hungry ALL THE TIME.

I can’t say I was 100% perfect on the plan last week. But honestly I stuck to about 95% of it and surprised myself I did that!

The week ended on Sunday where I found myself at a Southern Baptist pot luck at my mom’s church (for a family get together with some out-of-town family). I forgot to bring a protein shake and was starving, but amazingly I persevered and didn’t partake in the meal at all! I busied myself entertaining the kids to keep my mind off of the plethora of casseroles, pies, sweet tea and rolls!

It did get a bit easier as the week progressed. Each day I felt a little bit better than the previous day. I definitely wouldn’t have been able to withstand the pot luck earlier in the week! Still, it was one of the hardest weeks I’ve had in a long time.

But now we are in week two. This week is going to be rougher than last week, with no actual food slated for the plan, only 4 protein shakes a day. I have a busy week this week, which is both a blessing and a curse. It’s going to be harder to deal with it because I’m probably going to be hungry a lot this week, but being busy occupies my time and my mind. I wouldn’t be surprised if I lost another 10-15 pounds this week.

I can’t say for certain but this week could potentially be the hardest week in this entire process, depending on how I do with surgery one week from today. But I’ve been trying to just push myself into the process, full steam ahead.

Here we go with the final week before pre-op. Wish me luck, universe!
