I’ve been on this journey for twelve and a half months. Longer if you count pre-op. In that time I’ve learned a lot about my eating habits, better ways to consume food, and triggers. But I’m still learning (r being reminded), and sometimes the hard way.
On the heels of last week’s post about losing literally 1/2 of my weight I had a hard lesson the very next day.
I’ve mentioned that as of the last few months my hunger has definitely returned. One of the tenants of this new life that I still struggle with remembering is to EAT SLOW. On said day, I was really hungry when we sat down to dinner. REALLY HUNGRY. I forgot what we even had, but whatever it was I started wolfing it down a mile a minute.
But it didn’t take long for me to remember how big of a mistake that is. At first it was a bit of an uneasy feeling. But within moments that uneasy feeling turned into extreme nausea and discomfort. I stood up and walked across the room, hoping standing would help some of that go away. I turned around and my wife noted that I didn’t look very good.
I’ve probably mentioned on here before my “stomach of steel” and the fact that I haven’t thrown up in like 35 years. Not once.
But I absolutely thought it was about to happen. I was both hot and cold. A bit light headed. A little sweaty. And a whole lot of nausea!
I walked away and sat in the recliner for a while. Thankfully my nurse wife got me one of my old Zofran and within 30 minutes most of that sick feeling was gone. But I can tell you for about half an hour things were NO BUENO!
Over a year, so much progress…and sometimes I still need the hard reminder.
