I don’t really want to make posts like this because honestly it’s TMI, but in the hopes that someday anyone besides me reads this blog, I want them to know the realities of having a weight loss surgery. I’m gonna be real but keep it brief and without deep detail.
Constipation. It’s very real for bariatric patients. I had gastric bypass (RNY) but from my understanding its common among all types of weight loss surgery.
In the last few years I’d dealt with it a bit as it is, but not terribly. For the first couple of weeks after surgery there didn’t seem to be a problem. The “output” was obviously a lot less due to much less intake, but in the last week it became a problem. It was a few days then things were suddenly a big struggle. After I finally went, the next cycle started and it was 3 days without going. I started in on Miralax (which I should have already been taking per my plans instructions) but that didn’t help and I was starting to get uncomfortable.
I finally had to go the more extreme route. Enema. I’d never done that and it was traumatizing and that’s all I will say about that. It didn’t even fully work. Just a little bit came out. I took more Miralax and an additional stool softener and things moved a little bit more but I am still feeling yucky.
That’s all I will say on it. Just know everything isn’t roses in this process (but it’s still worth it). When it comes to this, follow your plan and stay ahead of it!
