Weekends are definitely going to be my biggest struggle between here and surgery. While not perfect (far from) I’ve been eating much better during the week but the weekends are always a struggle.
My daughter is at a nearby university and comes home every 2 or 3 weekends. My wife likes to sleep in on the weekends, as does my daughter when she’s here, and I’m an early riser. Historically that means that one weekend day I would typically go to Hardee’s, McDonalds or Burger King and get a bunch of unhealthy food for breakfast. The other day I’d usually eat a couple of packs of pop-tarts and have a coke or similar…yeah, that’s truly terrible but I’m just being honest.
But it’s not just breakfast. From the time I get home Friday night until I go to bed on Sunday I would historically snack a lot, in between at least a couple of bad meals each day.
Yesterday started off strong. I did my protein drink and an Adkins bar and started chugging my water. But it wasn’t long until I was snacking, going to get a fast food lunch, snacking some more, eating pizza for dinner, and more snacking. UGH.
I’m going to have to be mindful and find ways to combat poor eating habits and “gotchas” on the weekends. A huge page of that is going to have to be a shift of making food at home.
It’s a learning process and I’m trying to walk the line between not beating myself up too much and holding myself accountable.
