I'm About To Lose It Logo

An obese 50 year old guy takes the plunge into RNY gastric bypass surgery.

Some may wonder why I’m documenting this process. I have two main reasons for why I’m doing that. And I suspect as I go through this journey, I will find other reasons I’m not even thinking of right now.

Reason One: I’m doing it for others.

As I’ve considered some form of bariatric surgery over the last few years, I’ve talked with a lot of people about it. What I’ve found is this: those that have done it have a lot of insight and info into the process and the day to day life after surgery, and those who have not done it don’t know much about it at all.

Don’t get me wrong, you can find a lot of info about it online. About the process, what it does, how it helps, the risks etc. But it’s a bit harder to find real world, first-person, no BS information on it. A lot of people who have gone through the process may not have time to write their thoughts down, or they may not want to.

I also know that blogging like this is a bit early 2000’s…but I’m doing it anyway. I guess that’s just how I roll.

Reason Two: I’m doing it for me.

Over the last decade, I’ve found I process better when I write things down. I’m not much for keeping a journal, but I do find when I take the time to write things out, like blog posts, it helps me to find clarity and understanding I may not otherwise have.

Also, I suspect there will be days where I am struggling and it will be nice to look back at better days and victories big and small.

Anyway…

That’s it. That’s why I’m doing it.

I doubt a lot of people will read it. That’s okay. I don’t see myself heavily promoting this collection of thoughts, feelings and observances…but it’s nice to have a written record.

And if it does help another person to understand the nitty gritty of the process, then all the better!
