Yesterday I did a thing. A pretty big thing. Yesterday myself, my wife, and my daughter went to Fall Creek Falls state park for some hiking. It’s just under 2 hours from where we live. I think I’ve been there before but it’s been so long I couldn’t remember for sure. I’ve definitely been there now!
I should have researched it a bit more before we went. My daughter and I recently went on a local hike that took about an hour and was a pretty easy hike for the most part. This one was a bit longer and bit more advanced. It wasn’t treacherous by any means but there were a lot more hills and rocky terrain to traverse. And it was a LOT longer than I anticipated! I thought we’d be doing maybe a mile hike total, but it turned out to be over 3.5 miles all told. None of us are used to that and we were for sure all wiped out when we were done. Even though the falls was really light compared to normal, due to not getting a lot of rain in the recent month or so, it was still a great day.
But for me, the big win was the actual hike. I hiked over 3.5 miles! When I started this whole health journey, walking 20 feet was something I had to think about. Walking 100 feet was a big deal. But to walk nearly 20,000 feet (and that was just during the hike) was astounding!
Before deciding to do this surgery, things like this were slipping away from me. The hope of ever being active like this was becoming a more distant memory with each passing day, and each gained pound.
I shared yesterday about recent struggles. Those are still there. But stuff like this is a huge win and a huge motivator. And an extra bonus, after recently gaining a pound or so, today I weighed and I was down 2 pounds and some change. I am less than a pound away from a MAJOR goal. More on that when I get there.
Today I woke up a LITTLE sore from the hike. But not terribly. Mostly just happy that I got to go outside, make great memories with my family, get some exercise, and just to be able to “do stuff”…it’s such a wonderful win for me!
