I'm About To Lose It Logo

An obese 50 year old guy takes the plunge into RNY gastric bypass surgery.

Yesterday I had a pretty good NSV!

Before surgery, our family ate out ALL THE TIME. During the week I would stop and get breakfast and go to lunch, at various fast food places. Then at night my wife and I would alternate between fast food, going out to a sit down, or ordering pizza. It was rare we cooked at home (there are a lot of legit reasons behind these, and some not legit reasons, but that’s too much to go into here).

Yesterday, at 20 days post-op, I had my first restaurant meal. Our daughter was home from college for the weekend and we hit up her (and my) favorite, Mexican. I was nervous about overeating or dumping. But this time I came armed and determined to do it right!

I brought one of my 4 ounce lunch containers and I ordered refried beans and one beef taco. Using the container, I added beans, meat, salsa, and cheese…all things I’d previously eaten and knew I could handle. After I filled my container I poured it out onto a plate, and made one more for later. I ate my 4 ounce mixture, which tasted great! Just as I finished the four ounces I felt like I was getting full, so it was a good time to stop!

There was a bit of a head game involved when they brought the chips and salsa, and when my wife ordered sweet tea. But I fought off any urges and stuck to what I knew I should!

I brought my 4 ounces of yum today and just finished having it for lunch. I consider my first restaurant a success. My next big challenge is the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday…but one day at a time.

My best guess on the macros on my bean mixture was as follows:
Calories: 200
Carbs: 16
Protein: 20
(if you try this, do your own math on it…YMMV)
