A few weeks ago I posted about The Joy Of Doing Stuff. I talk about getting out my mower, after something like four years, and getting it ready to mow. Even after all the work I did, the mower still needs a little TLC, but it was passable to mow.
So yesterday, for the first time in four years, I mowed the yard after work. Thankfully the weather was a bit overcast and breezy, so even though it was around 90 degrees it wasn’t too bad.
I do have a big yard so to clarify it is a riding mower. But it was also the first time in four years, after I mowed that I walked around our entire yard with a weed trimmer and used that everywhere. Then I took the time to get the blower out and blow off the sidewalk, driveway, street, etc.
I really enjoyed it, and it wasn’t nearly the chore it was the last seasons I did it. Our front and back yard is a bit of a sloping hill and I still remember how hard it was walking up and down that hill previously. It wasn’t nearly as bad this time.
I guess in the grand scheme of things it shouldn’t be that big a deal, but it felt good to be able to do a normal chore without dreading the pain.
One more footnote to where I am with my health. After losing 200+ pounds, and still losing, I’m starting to think about doing things that I haven’t thought of in many, many years. I think this fall I am going to build a storage shed in my back yard. You can buy them of course, but I think I’d prefer to build mine myself. Another thing is that I grew up very close to a national whitewater rafting spot, the Ocoee River. I went a couple of times as a teen but I haven’t been down the river in over 30 years. I’m thinking next summer might be my year. We’ll see what the future holds.
