I’m about three and a half months out. I’m out of the honeymoon phase of this surgery and now I’m in the thick of it. What I’ve been calling “The daily grind.”
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still losing weight, I’m still completely happy I had RNY surgery. No regrets! But I’m past the excitement and newness of it, and in to the long part of the journey where I have to choose to make good choices, deal with some of the side effects of the surgery that I’ve talked about recently, and generally just soldier on.
Weight loss is still happening albeit at a slightly slower rate than it was to start with. That is totally understandable and reasonable, so I’m not mad about it. I’m down about 133 pounds as of this morning (83 of that post surgery.) Really happy with that…but I know I still have at least 125+ more to lose. So I keep trekking on.
But yesterday something weird happened. Something REALLY freaky.
I was in the bathroom at work and walked past one of the sink mirrors and looked over and I stopped.
I could see it. I could tell a difference.
Even though I still have a long, long way to go. It was one of the first times I looked in the mirror and really was stopped by the difference I was seeing there. It was one of the first times that I felt I could see a difference in my stomach area. Even though I’ve been fitting into smaller shirts, etc., I could really SEE it.
It was just a good little victory, and a good reminder of an addage I heard many, many years ago:
Little things done excellently over time produce great results.
Gone are the days of me losing a pound a day. Gone are the early days of never being the slightest bit hungry and not being able to eat anything but a protein shake. But this…this was a good reminder that if I stick with my plan, keep up my efforts, and make good choices, I will see results.
Onward and Upward.
