I'm About To Lose It Logo

An obese 50 year old guy takes the plunge into RNY gastric bypass surgery.

Today was a good NSV day. It’s Christmas eve and I have the day off. I could have spent it taking it easy, but instead I took the opportunity to clean out my garage. I do hobby woodworking and had old scrapped wood squirreled away everywhere. That, and busted cardboard boxes from things that had shipped for gifts were overrunning everything. You can see from the photo (ignore my terrible back deck that needs replaced!) that I carried items to our fire pit in the back yard and burned them. I made about six or seven trips from the garage out front, around the house, down the hill, then back up. I did this a bunch of times without stopping, before I brought the chair down, just to make sure the fire stayed in check.

In the past, I would have been huffing and puffing if I made that walk once. Today, I did all of that with no problems.

After I did that I took all of the big items (table saws, drill presses, etc.) out of the garage and swept it out. Another hour project that I did without any problems, and as far as I can remember, no sitting. In the past I would have sat down every five to ten minutes to catch my breath.

With all of that done, I took a break for some lunch, then came back and spent another 30 minutes or so cleaning off my cluttered work bench.

All of this is pretty mundane stuff…but it’s all stuff that I would have struggled greatly with in the past! I would have been lucky if I did that hill more than once and I would have definitely sat down to rest each time. I wouldn’t have probably done the burning and cleaned the garage on the same day. It would have been too much.

I am tired from all the work, but it was still a reminder that even mundane tasks around the house are completely different than what they sued to be. I always try to be VERY mindful of these types of wins. I’ve been struggling a bit more on the food side lately. Giving in a bit more and losing less. I’m within 20 pounds of my goal weight, but the weight is coming off much more slowly. in the past it would have been 1…2…3 pounds in a week. Now it’s about a pound every two weeks…maybe. BUT it’s NSV’s like these, that keep me going, help me to refocus, and help me keep my head on straight. Here’s to the mundane!
