This isn’t a “Weight Update” in the true sense, but this morning I weighed and was at 270.0. I hit a bit of stall a couple of weeks ago but in the last week or so loss has continued and at a faster rate than recent times. I ain’t complaining.
It still boggles my mind a bit that I’m at 270. I started at 508. I can’t pinpoint it exactly but I am sure I haven’t been at 270 in 25 years or more. I’d say probably closer to 30 years. That’s kind of crazy to me and even though I see the number on the scale, feel it in my clothes and my joints, and see the results in the things I do, it still seems dreamlike to me!
I know that the big goal here is not losing weight but getting healthy. It’s more important to have a good overall health, including weight loss, than to just focus on weight loss. But speaking as a guy who has been extremely overweight all of his adult life, I have to confess that weight loss is my standard for how I’m doing. Maybe when I get down below 250 (aka my target range) it wont be as big of a deal, or maybe when I hit my current target of 225…but for now It IS my focus, whether it should be or not.
Also I hear over and over not to weigh daily. I shouldn’t be, but I do weigh pretty much every day. Every day I say “I don’t need to weigh today.” A lot of people have a weekly weigh in day. I have 2 weekly weigh in days, days where I record my weight (at least on the days I’ve lost), and that is Wednesday and Sunday. But I find myself weighing every day.
I know that is not good. I know, especially as I get closer to my target weight I’m going to have to curtail this. I know when I’m closer to my target that fluctuations are going to happen more and weight loss will be less. But it’s hard because for my analytical mind seeing the number decrease means success.
I also notice that now if I get on the scale, especially Wednesday and Sunday, and it has gone up or is the same, I get REALLY discouraged. I need to stop that. I know stalls happen and weight can go up at any given time for a multitude of reasons.
So I’ve got to work on my scale relationship, just like I work on my weight and health relationships…but for right now it’s good to see that number still going down.
My next big goal is 254. At that point I will have literally lost half of my body weight. I still can’t quick wrap my brain around that. After that it’s 250. I consider anything under 250 a win. Then 225 which has been my target(ish) from the get go, and a number my doctor thinks might be healthy for me. Then…we’ll see.
It’s all one step at a time, but even 10 pounds ago that 254 seemed so far away. But it’s getting ever closer and I’m happy with the progress.
