I'm About To Lose It Logo

An obese 50 year old guy takes the plunge into RNY gastric bypass surgery.

It’s been a minute since I posted and I know my posts are getting fewer and further in between. Not a lot new to report, but at the same time it’s all still new.

I’m less than a month a way from 2 years post-op. I had hoped by this point to be at my goal weight of 225. I’ve gotten so close. One single day the scale was at 224.8…but for the last six months I’ve hovered between 227-234. Down…and up. Down…and up. It’s my fault though and there’s no question about it. My eating has gotten a lot more lax than I’d like it to be. Proof that this is a tool and not a magic bullet, is that I still struggle with bad habits, and turning them around. But I’m still less than 10 pounds from my goal so despite not being the win I wanted…I still call it a win!

I still try to make a conscious effort all the time to remind myself of where I am vs where I was. I am doing so many things that used to be so out of reach!

One of the most notable is that I’m walking/jogging most every Saturday…and a 5K (3.11 miles) at that. It wears me out but I’m doing it while the weather is good! When it gets too cold I will get back in the gym but I’m enjoying being out there and doing stuff. It’s a huge NSV for me!

There are also a million little things. The other night I got down on the floor to play with our dog. At my heaviest, getting on the floor was cause for a minor panic. This time, when I was done, I hopped right up. All the little NSVs like my daily little walks around my work, being able to stand for longer periods in my shop, doing my own yard work, buying clothes at normal stores for normal prices…all of these NSVs are things I try to constantly keep in mind.

So, I’m in the long haul. Maybe I will hit that 225. I’m going to try. But I’m still happy with where I am and what I’ve accomplished!
