I'm About To Lose It Logo

An obese 50 year old guy takes the plunge into RNY gastric bypass surgery.

This post is just a mish-mash of a few victories, mostly NSV’s.

The first though is a scale victory. After hovering between 408 and 400 for what seemed like forever (like 2.5 weeks), I finally broke the 400 barrier and am continuing down. 396 at this writing. It’s still a ways off but looking forward to 350. I can remember the last time I was about 365 (about 7 years ago, briefly) but I cannot remember the last time I was 350. It will come.

Next, I’m still psyched that a few weeks ago I was able to buy smaller pants. I went from a 52 to a 46. When I first got the 46 they were snug (not too tight), and I’ve even noticed over the last week or so that they are a little bit looser. Probably within a couple of months it will be time for another pair.

Another victory with the pants is a mental one. Every morning I look at the waist in those pants and I say to myself “These are not going to fit me!” and every morning they do. It’s crazy that I do this EVERY MORNING even though I know they fit….and every day they still do!

At my highest, I was somewhere around notch 9 on my belt. I’m at around notch 15 now. That’s a great NSV. Eventually I’m going to have to replace this belt, but I’m going to wear it as long as I can because I like tracking that progress.

I can’t say I’ve completely “outgrown” any of my old shirts, but what was once tight or approaching “too small” now fits well. At my highest I was wearing a 7XLT. These days it’s anywhere from a 7XLT to a 5X (big and tall clothes vary wildly!) Before surgery no 5X/5XLT would come close to fitting me.

Although I’ve only been to the gym about half a dozen times since I joined, I have been able to slightly stretch out my workouts each time.

One weird thing I’ve started noticing at night laying in bed….I can feel my hip bones. They are still buried in “layers”, and I know they were always there, but I’m noticing them now. I can feel them. It sounds funny and it’s weird I know, but it’s a good weird.

There are still frustrations and struggles on some fronts and it’s still mostly a mental fight, but I love seeing these victories, big and small….and getting smaller. 😉
